JASON TAKO ACCEPTED INTO SOCIETY OF ANIMAL ARTISTS


Jason Tako has been accepted into The Society of Animal Artists as a Signature Member. Headquartered in the historic Salmagundi Club building in New York City (one of America's oldest art organizations), the Society is devoted to promoting excellence in the artistic portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet, and to the education of the public through informative art seminars, lectures and teaching demonstrations. Some of the finest animal artists from around the world are represented in the Society's membership. Over the past 40 years, the work created by these artists has established new standards of artistic excellence and respect, helping animal and wildlife art to achieve a place of honor in the field of fine art.

MARK KELVIN HORTON: LANDMARKS

Opening June 3, 2010

Horton Hayes Fine Art will exhibit a new group of paintings by Mark Kelvin Horton. The works comprise a range of images representing landmarks by various definitions. "A landmark can be a prominent identifying feature of a landscape, a historically significant building or an important site or event," said Mark. "These definitions guided me in creating this series and I hope the resulting paintings will be significant and memorable to the viewer, as well."

CRESCENDO: THE OPERA POSTERS OF LARRY MOORE


A new book featuring the work of Horton Hayes artist, Larry Moore has recently been published. Crescendo: The Opera Posters of Larry Moore showcases a series of paintings created for the Orlando Opera over a 10 year period. Each season Moore created 3 to 4 paintings to tell the story of each opera presented. The book features the artwork along with a the synopsis of the opera and insight into how each piece of art evolved. There are sketches and color studies plus a section on the creative process Moore employs to produce compelling works of narrative art. Many of these paintings have been accepted and exhibited in the two most prestigious illustration shows in the world, The Society of Illustrators and Communication Arts Illustration Annual.

JASON TAKO JURIED INTO PLEIN AIR EASTON COMPETITION

July 19-25, 2010

Jason Tako was among the 55 artists selected this year to compete in the 6th Annual Plein Air Easton! Competition, to be held July 19-25 in Easton, Maryland. This is the second year that Tako has applied to enter the competition and the second year that he has been selected. A record number of artists from across the country and around the world entered this year.
During this week-long art festival scores of painters descend upon Easton and Talbot County, bringing with them an up-close-and-personal look at the excitement and spontaneity that surrounds art created en plein air.

FROM THE FIELD TO THE STUDIO: Chris Groves Painting Demonstrations at Horton Hayes Fine Art

February through November, 2010

Commencing in February and continuing through November, 2010, Gallery artist and painting workshop instructor, Chris Groves, will be presenting monthly painting demonstrations at Horton Hayes Fine Art. There will be NO CHARGE to attend, but space is limited to ten people per session. Each demonstration session will be held on the second Saturday of each month (EXCEPT FOR APRIL WHEN THE SESSION WILL BE HELD ON APRIL 3rd) from 10am to 12pm, unless otherwise noted. SEATING MUST BE RESERVED AND IS ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. Reservations can be made in advance and reservations for each session will be taken starting on the 15th day of the month prior to each demonstration. (For example, March’s demonstration can be reserved as of February 15th.) The Gallery will maintain a waiting list for interested people who are not among the first 10 to sign up.
In November, after the last session, a drawing will be held to give away the field study used as reference during the demonstrations. Each attendee may enter the drawing.

Topics for each session are as follows:

•     February 13th: Preparing your field study and canvas. Composition and concept.
•     March 13th: Drawing and initial wash in.
•     April 3rd: Values, shapes, and their relationships (monochromatic).
•     May 8th: Finishing the underpainting. Limited palette. Light and its place
•     June 12th: Color and its application (first layer). Discussion of Palette.
•     July 10th: Brush strokes, palette knife, and creating texture (additional layers).
•     August 14th: Working the painting as a whole. Relationships within the painting.
•     September 11th: Finishing the painting. Detail, highlights and accents.
•     October 9th: Glazing – “Pushing” the painting toward completion.
•     November 13th: Completing the painting. Signature, photographing, framing, pricing and hanging.
